Use Food to Elevate Your Mood

Mostly, people have been taught to think that “comfort” foods are terrible for the body and need to be avoided. Sometimes, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or another junk food, this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nutritious and it’s good for you to consume them. A number of foods actually do boost your mood when you consume them. When you feel a little down and are needing an emotional boost, test out a couple of these.

Eggs, you may be amazed to find out, are great at combating depression. You should see to it, though, that what you make includes the yolk. Whenever you wish to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are high in B vitamins. The B vitamin family can be fantastic for boosting your mood. This is because these vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that dictate your mood–run better. Try consuming some eggs to jolly up!

Make some trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be elevated by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and so on. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” substance that our body produces and it tells your brain how you should be feeling at all times. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic protein food source.

If you want to defeat depression, try consuming some cold water fish. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, and so on, they’re all high in omega-3s and DHA. These are two substances that increase the quality and function of the grey matter in your brain. It’s true: eating a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly elevate your mood.

It’s easy to fight your bad mood when you consume grains. Quinoa, millet, teff and barley are all truly wonderful for helping increase your happiness levels. These foods can help you feel full for longer also, which is a mood improver. It’s not hard to feel low when you feel hungry! These grains can help your mood elevate because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. You digest them faster than other foods which can help promote your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel better, mood wise.

Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You just knew green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is loaded with an amino acid known as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps better your mental focus while relaxing the rest of your body. You likely already knew it is not difficult to get healthy when you drink green tea. Now you are aware that green tea can help you be happier also!

You can see, you don’t need to eat junk food or foods that are not good for you so you can feel better! Try some of these instead!
