Turn to Food to Boost Your Mood
For the most part, people have been conditioned to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. If your comfort food is candy or junk food this holds true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether nourishing and it’s good for you to eat them. Some foods honestly do improve your mood when you eat them. If you feel a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.
Eggs, believe it or not, are terrific for helping you fight depression. Just make sure that you do not throw out the egg yolk. Every time you would like to cheer yourself up, the egg yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolk especially, are high in B vitamins. B vitamins can be fantastic for lifting up your mood. This is because these vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that tell you how to feel). Try consuming some eggs to feel better!
Put together a trail mixfrom a variety of seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these nuts are rich in magnesium, which helps to increase serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that tells your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin you have, the happier you are going to feel. Not just that, nuts, particularly, are a terrific protein food source.
Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel happier. Cold water fish including tuna, trout and wild salmon are chock full of DHA and omega-3 fats. These are two things that raise the quality and the function of your brain’s grey matter. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you overcome your depression.
Some grains are really great for driving away bad moods. Barley, millet, quinoa, etc are excellent at helping you feel better. These grains fill you up better and that can help you with your moods also. Feeling hungry can be awful! The reason these grains are so great for your mood is that they are not difficult for your body to digest and process. You digest these foods faster than other foods which can help increase your blood sugar levels, which, in turn, helps make you feel happier, mood wise.
Green tea is actually excellent for your mood. You just knew it had to be in here somewhere, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid referred to as L-theanine. Research has proved that this amino acid stimulates the production of brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while at the same calming the rest of your body. You were already aware that that green tea helps you become a lot healthier. Now you know that green tea helps you to raise your moods too!
Now you realize that junk food isn’t necessarily what you have to eat when you want to help your moods get better. Test out these tips instead!
