Foods That Make You Happy

A lot of us think that comfort foods are not good for us and that we must stay away from them. Often, if your comfort food is a high sugar food or some other junk food, this is true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be completely nourishing and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. If you are feeling a little bit down and you’re needing an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be actually great at beating back depression. Just make sure that you do not toss the egg yolk. The egg yolk is the most essential part of the egg in terms of helping raise your mood. Eggs, the egg yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. B vitamins can actually help you improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins increase the function of your brain’s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Eat an egg and feel happier!

Make a few trail mix of nuts or seeds. Your mood can be raised by consuming peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. This is because these nuts are loaded with magnesium, which helps to increase your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good chemical that tells the brain how to feel at any given point in time. The more of this chemical in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Not just that, nuts, specifically, are a fantastic source of protein.

Cold water fish are good if you would like to feel better. Wild salmon, herring, mackerel, trout, and tuna are all high in omega-3s and DHA. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can really help you battle your depression.

Grains can be good for driving away a bad mood. Millet, quinoa, barley, etc are excellent at helping you be happier. They fill you up better and that can help elevate your moods too. It’s not difficult to feel low when you are starving! These grains can elevate your mood because it’s not at all hard for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps bring up your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, raises your mood.

Green tea is truly excellent for your mood. You were sure green tea had to be included in this article, right? Green tea is found to be chock-full of an amino acid called L-theanine. Studies have found that this particular amino acid can essentially stimulate brain waves. This will improve your brain’s concentration while also loosening up the rest of your body. You were already aware that green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood also!

As you can see, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you are wanting to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
