Use Food to Boost Your Mood

Most of us have been trained to think that comfort foods are bad and to be avoided. At times, if your comfort food is basically candy or other junk foods, this can be true. Other times, though, comfort foods can be altogether healthy and it’s good for you to consume them. There are several foods that basically can improve your moods when you consume them. If you seem to feel a little bit down and you’re in need of a happiness pick me up, try some of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, can be truly terrific at beating back depression. Just make sure that you don’t throw away the yolk. The yolk is the most essential part of the egg iwhen it comes to helping raise your mood. Eggs, the yolks especially, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are terrific for helping to improve your mood. This is because the B vitamins help your neural transmitters–the parts of your brain that control your mood–work better. Eat a few eggs to cheer up!

Make a trail mixfrom different seeds and nuts. Your mood can be raised by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is possible as these foods have a bunch of magnesium which raises serotonin production. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical that dictates to your brain how you feel day in and day out. The more serotonin in your brain, the better you’ll feel. Nuts, on top of raising your mood, can be a super protein source.

Cold water fish are great if you would like to feel better. Salmon, herring, tuna, mackerel, trout, etc, they’re all high in omega-3 and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA are two things that really help the grey matter in your brain function a lot better. It’s true: consuming a tuna fish sandwich can earnestly boost your mood.

It’s not difficult to overcome your bad mood when you eat grains. Quinoa, barley, millet, etc are great at helping you be happier. They help you feel full also which can truly help to improve your mood. Feeling famished can be terrible! These grains can help your mood elevate since it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. These foods are easier to digest than others which helps promote a rise in your blood glucose which in turn takes your mood to a happier place.

Your mood could actually be helped by green tea. You knew green tea had to be in this article somewhere, right? Green tea is high in a particular amino acid called L-theanine. Research has discovered that this amino acid induces the production of brain waves. This helps focus your mental energy while at the same time making the rest of your body more relaxed. You were already aware that green tea could help you become so much healthier. Now you know that green tea can elevate your mood too!

See, you don’t need to stuff your face with junk food when you wish to feel better! Test out these tips instead!
